Enhance Your Control Room with the Right Monitor Arms: Tips and Recommendations

This guide will help you choose the monitor arms for your control console setup. Whether you are building a trading desk, a 9-1-1 dispatch console, or a process control room, these principles will help you choose a great monitor configuration for your workstation console.

The first thing we always want to do is have a good understanding of how many monitors you’re going to need. Once we have an understanding of how many monitors you need, the next thing we need to know is the size, width, and weight. This information will help us determine which monitor arms to suggest.

If you have more than four monitors, the next question is whether these will be on one row or two rows.

After understanding the size and quantity of monitors, we need to consider the type of console you are working with. Is it a fixed height console or an electric height adjustable console? If it’s electric height adjustable, is it a single surface or two surfaces?

For this example, we’re going to use a single surface height adjustable workstation console. We’ll start with a desk mount monitor configuration. An advantage of this configuration is that it uses a pole-type structure, allowing you to attach multiple monitor arms to the pole. Within this classification of monitor arms, you can add multiple desk mounts, creating a whole rail system. In this example, we have two, but you can easily slide this over and add another one, giving you one row of monitors.

If you need two rows of four monitors, you simply need a longer pole system. You can connect them one after the other and add support structures in between. Other options available include a bolt-through grommet hole and a Sustema design rail system. The anchoring rail system spans the length of the work surface or monitor arm surface, providing flexibility for future-proofing. If you need eight monitors today and twelve in the future, the Sustema design anchoring system allows you to build as you go.
