Common elements of a radio & broadcast control room console
What is the purpose of a broadcast control console?
The purpose of a broadcast control room console is to support the crew members who make sure any video feed reaches its intended audience during a program. That could be a television out on set, or a viewer’s television set at home and nowadays your smartphone.
What do operators do with these consoles?
The operators in these broadcasting consoles need to make sure that the show is on the air and that the correct program is airing. Each person plays a vital role in executing a newscast and a livestream every day. But since crew members require a diverse set of tools, their control console should accommodate different roles and requirements.
Characteristics of a modern broadcast control room console:
A broadcast console is similar to a dispatch console and other control room consoles. They are built using heavy duty materials to ensure their durability and reliability, and also they implement technology integration into their design.
The 2 main components of a broadcast control room console are:
Steel substructure: it forms the base of the console, gives it its strength and reliability, as it supports all the equipment on top of the worksurface and protects the IT equipment underneath the workstation like CPU units and all the modules inside the rackmount units. It also serves as the cable management infrastructure.
HPL worksurface: it creates the wide worksurface on which operators work all day, it is made from high-pressure laminate to provide a smooth working area that is scratch, tear and impact resistant. This material creates a durable worksurface where all accessories and peripherals are placed.
The steel substructure supports the weight of the HPL worksurface and everything on it. It is designed to prevent the worksurface from bending throughout the years.
Features in a broadcast control room console:

Articulated monitor arms mounted on the worksurface using a slatwall surface
Rackmount box 3U, on the worksurface, for a custom a setup
Urethane edge finish on the HPL worksurface
Cable management enclosure with electrical raceways separating power and data cables
Junction boxes to separate power cables
Thick cable chains to pass through cables and protect IT equipment from disconnects while the surface is in motion
High powered actuators
Keypad controller that allows to adjust height of the worksurfaces
CPU enclosure with sliding tray and ventilation, as well as lockable doors, accessible from the front and the back of the console.
Power bars mounted underneath the worksurface for easy cable management
